This item is a great value and a wonderful starting place for beginners, however i will say the video is a joke HORRID!! but good for a laugh. the ink is a joke as well...but no worries there you can use it on your practice skin. there have been some issues reported with the power supply however mine seems to be fine. the guns are very good for the price nice weight tho some may find them heavy i like them, lots of needles to play with..and lots of goodies to get you started. i very much recommend this kit for starters with separate ink and you tube videos and a bottle of green soap you will be inking yourself and friends in no time flat....enjoy

Choosing your Tattoo Parlor What to watch out for

Choosing your Tattoo Parlor What to watch out for

Once you have made the decision to get a tattoo you'll need to find a qualified tattoo parlor. This is a very important decision, as it can easily make or break your tattoo. Before you decide on a tattoo artist or tattoo parlor, you must first see if they are qualified. There are hundreds of thousands of tattoo parlors out there, some better than others. If you go to a less than perfect tattoo parlor, you could very well end up with an infection that can cause you more trouble than you ever thought possible. Finding out how long a parlor has been in business is very important - as this will tell you how much business the parlor receives.

When you look for the best parlor you should always watch for those who have the best history with keeping their equipment clean. Clean equipment and a clean studio is without a doubt the most important consideration when dealing with tattoos. If the artist isn't licensed or not a professional there will be little to no guarantee that the equipment is clean. Health is a big concern with tattoos for most people, and for good reason. If you are looking to get a tattoo you should always make sure that the artists are licensed, the parlor is clean - and the equipment is sanitized and cleaned after each and every tattoo.

The best tattoo parlors will welcome you in with open arms, anticipating your business. When you meet the tattoo artist, he should be friendly and not intimidate you at all, nor should he at any time attempt to push a design on you. Under no circumstances should the artist try and talk you into getting a more expensive tattoo design if all you want is something small and simple.

Pushy sales and unfriendly salesmen are common pitfalls with most businesses. Tattoo parlors should always be friendly and open to what you want. Although the more experienced tattoo artists will offer their opinions, they shouldn't try to push you around. If a tattoo artists thinks there will be a problem with your design or if he thinks he can do anything to improve it, he will more than likely let you know. If he is able to save you some money, the higher quality tattoo artists won't think twice about doing so.

Before you decide on a tattoo parlor to do your tattoo, you should always compare what's available to you and weigh out your options. The higher quality tattoo parlors will cost quite a bit of money, more than the other parlors. This is to be expected, as the higher quality studios cost more to pay their artists and keep their parlor nice and clean. These parlors are among the best in the world, with sparkling floors and a clean interior. The tattoo artists here ensure that their rooms are clean, with most wiping down their equipment and materials every chance they get.

The ideal way to find tattoo parlors in your area or close by is to use the Internet and search or just open a local phone book. If you look for the keyword tattoos, you'll find several that are relatively close to you. Once you have found some addresses, simply drive out there and take a look around. If you like what you see, you can always come back. You shouldn't rush your decision - but instead look at what each tattoo parlor has to offer you.

With the popularity of such shows as Miami Ink and LA Ink these days you hand someone a tattoo gun and they think they are an artist. Tattoo cleanliness can make all the difference in the end result of your tribal armband tattoo. Many people think they cannot shower after a tattoo but this is not true.

The Book of Old-School Skin Art

The Book of Old-School Skin Art

Product Description

Tattoos have gone from badges of rebellion to fashion statements fully absorbed into mainstream culture. They are enjoying a renaissance, with graphic designers and artists creating specialty tattoos for a growing audience, unleashing a revival of interest in the bawdy vintage tattoo. Old school tattoos are being rediscovered (sometimes ironically, sometimes not) by a new generation. Originally embraced by rebels, sailors, and gangsters, these tattoos—broken hearts, naked girls, floral motifs, and maritime emblems—are now showing up on the fashion runway and in music videos. This book chronicles vintage motifs in thematic chapters interspersed with profiles of influential tattoo artists and their distinctive designs: Sailor Jerry Collins, Don Ed Hardy ("the Godfather of Tattoos"), Mike "Rollo Banks" Malone, Bert Grimm, Japan’s Horiyoshi III, and Shanghai’s Pinky Yun.

Review

“It seems like everyone and their mother has been inked. Carol Clerk’s new tome, Vintage Tattoos, The Book of Old-School Skin Art, tracks the evolution of old-school pin-up girl pieces…as well as classic floral, nautical, death memorials and heart designs.” ~Nylon Magazine

“We’ve read our fill about tattooed circus acts and indigenous people, but we’ll always make time for the scalawags who revolutionized tattoo art. The best chapters in Carol Clerk’s Vintage Tattoos: The Book of Old-School Skin Art detail the history of nautical and patriotic tattoos and their superstitions.” ~Inked Magazine

"The lavishly displayed wealth of brightly colored old-school flash is the heart of Vintage Tattoos, and the main reason you’ll find yourself flipping through it again and again. (Clerk's) ruminations on these designs and their cryptic meanings are enlightening." ~Playboy.com

"Vintage Tattoos is as much a tat history for tat lovers as it is for anyone into pop culture and art. Gems of tattoo lore transport us to the traveling circuses of the turn of the century (which kick-started America’s tattoo fascination) and hidden backroom parlors which popped up once state governments started banning tattooing in the 1960s. It’s a history lesson worth its ink." ~ModernTonic.com

"Vintage Tattoos...is 256 pages of art and anecdotes. Salty stories of tattoo times when shotguns, not art school degrees, hung on the walls behind the parlor counter. When tattooists traveled with the circus, not metal bands. And when the art went underground because of tattoo bans." ~Needled.com

"...an entertaining and informative title that should be in every tattoo enthusiast's book collection." ~Skin Art Magazine

“Somehow quaint and sexy at once, this opus of the epidermis will stimulate smiles, winces, and perhaps more.” ~Passport Magazine

Dragonfly Tattoos

dragonfly tattoos

Just like other winged creatures such as the fairy or the angel, dragonfly tattoos are an extremely popular tattoo for women. Perhaps this is because dragonflies appear to be gentle, delicate creatures. In many ways dragonfly tattoos can represent a free spirit because their able to fly away at any time. It also embodies light because its shell contains a unique combination of proteins and minerals, making it catch and reflect the light of the sun in that special way that dragonflies have.

Additionally, in traditional Native American beliefs, the dragonfly symbolizes invincibility, wisdom, and agility. It’s also said to be a messenger from the spirit world. This is because it’s a part of two separate realms: air and water. Because it’s able to pass through these two different worlds, the Native Americans believed that it was about to pass between our world and the world of the spirit.

The image of the dragonfly is often associated with creativity and imagination. The way its delicate wings flutter in the air bring to mind images of fairies and magic, which puts the dragonfly in a rather romantic light. It’s no surprise why dragonfly tattoos have become increasingly popular.

And the size and variety of dragonfly tattoos almost rivals the amount of interpretations of the symbol. Common places to get a dragonfly tattoo include the ankle, lower back, shoulder, thigh, neck, and upper arm. Many women prefer small, discrete dragonfly tattoos that they can easily cover, whereas other women prefer larger monuments to the dragonfly on their bodies. Either way, dragonfly tattoos look simply wonderful.

Common designs can range from simple, elegant black dragonflies to complex, highly colorful ones. Because dragonfly tattoos are very popular designs are literally endless. There are dragonfly tattoos that look exactly like a real dragonfly and there are others that utilize a bit of imagination, making them look more dragon-like. Some of the designs include other images as well, such as words, hearts, stars, crosses, Chinese symbols, and myriad other images.

Because of all this, it’s not at all difficult to see why dragonfly tattoos have become so popular. For anyone wishing to get a tattoo, the dragonfly is an excellent choice.

What Do Skull Tattoos Represent?

Whatever your opinion about tattoos you can't deny that body art is something we actually all admire. Generally those who have tattoos look the part, you could think they ride a motorbike or play guitar within a rock group. Tattoos are not solely reserved in support of the individuals who fit the profile as we assume, they are everyday folks who have taken a step towards wearing whatever they feel about their own life and whatever they've achieved with permanent ink.

Trendy Skull Tattoos Designs 2011
Skull designs are particularly alluring for the reason that even though we all have knowledge what a skull looks like it's not something we look at in everyday society. Skulls signify death, it might be the death of someone or the death of something, a skull is only a symbol of death, not death itself. For individuals who opt for a skull tattoo design it might just be that they love the picture which comes with the skull. A skull by itself isn't very frightening, we all seen one in anatomy class. A skull however with a tattoo design wrapped around it can be very artistic.
Trendy Skull Tattoos Designs 2011
There are over hundreds of these designs and every one by itself means something special. These tattoo designs can often mean the death of a person which lived a difficult life. Nearly all designs connected with the death of someone will contain a picture of them in their better days, not a skull. So once you've come across these tattoos, it's meant for a harder time. A skull designed tattoo may in addition mean the death of something difficult like an addiction or a closed part of life which has been buried. For the most part individuals who wear skull tattoos have them prominently displayed so you actually observe them. They are sometimes private designs as well, if you asked for the story behind the tattoo design you could get an insight into the individual who decided to obtain these tattoos.
Trendy Skull Tattoos Designs 2011
As skulls actually seem like an evil sort of symbol nearly all individuals could think they stand for something bad. Nearly all of these designs are exactly that but since a large amount of individuals connect skulls with death and mortality it's understandable. As soon as tattoo artist starts to work on the general picture of a skull and stretch it or warp it in a way which makes the skull take on a human form, a number of individuals can see this as unsettling. Although, a good number of individuals who don't know a person who has a skull tattoo design could not understand the significance behind the tattoo or the artwork it took to sketch it.
Trendy Skull Tattoos Designs 2011
On many occasions you will witness a skull tattoo design on a gentleman but females have started to obtain them too. They could be representative of perhaps thousands of things for a female such like a broken down relationship or a part of life which is now vanished. Unlike a flower or butterfly, a skull tattoo design doesn't correspond to beauty, it represents hurt. You could even come across a skull tattoo design combined with another tat such like the skull taking on human form or else characterized as an individual. Skull designs are often colourless, they actually include colour but they are usually drawn dark and rigid to give it a glum look. Females who get skull designs could add a little colours to make them more feminine.  Larry J Pitcher

Celtic Butterfly Tattoos

Trendy Celtic Tattoos, Butterfly Tattoos 2010/2011
Where do Celtic Butterfly Tattoos come from?
Celtic culture revolved around its strong links with nature, from the humble rock to the beautiful butterfly the Celts featured everything in their rich tradition. Celts were especially drawn to winged animals, believing these magical creatures contained souls, flying on an important journey searching for a new mother.

Trendy Celtic Tattoos, Butterfly Tattoos 2010/2011
This was the case of the butterfly, when an ideal female host was found the butterfly would conceal itself in her food/drink and wait to be consumed. Thus the butterfly would impregnate their soul, enabling it to be reborn within a child.
Trendy Celtic Tattoos, Butterfly Tattoos 2010/2011
To the Celts a butterfly was a strong symbol of reincarnation and evolution. A butterfly escaping from its cocoon, evolving from its previous grub form and by the injection of its soul into a woman its rebirth human infant. Peace, elegance and beauty all positive elements held highly in Celtic society were epitomized by the butterfly. These pagan foundations have carried through into modern society with Celtic Butterfly Tattoos.
Trendy Celtic Tattoos, Butterfly Tattoos 2010/2011
Butterfly's which came in the night were not good omens. Moths are a distant relative of the butterfly, but lack the grace and elegance of their cousins. Butterfly's are the complete opposite of this, renowned for bringing happiness and good fortune, a tradition which has carried on to present day.
Trendy Celtic Tattoos, Butterfly Tattoos 2010/2011
What goes into the design of Celtic Butterfly Tattoos?
Knots were an integral part of Celts culture, the designs would take the form of a never-ending rope representing the cycle of life and reincarnation. Knot designs were evolved into butterfly shapes, this pagan tradition is used to this day in Celtic Butterfly Tattoos. Celtic knot-work patterns were developed by the Celts originally, later monks carried on the work inherited from their ancestors. To assist with the concentration required for prayer, pages of holy text would be continually decorated with knot-work patterns. The monks believed their increased concentration would bring them closer to their god.
Trendy Celtic Tattoos, Butterfly Tattoos 2010/2011
Using the method of knotting and applying it to a butterfly enable artists to create Celtic Butterfly Tattoos. A never-ending flow of rope forms the body and wings, twining inside and out to form the detail. A strong outline gives artists a excellent base to work from, additional detail and designs can be applied. Popular objects include other Celtic charms such as four leaf clovers, these charms build up a story behind the tattoo.
Trendy Celtic Tattoos, Butterfly Tattoos 2010/2011
Where can I find Celtic Butterfly Tattoos?
It can be a struggle finding the perfect design for a tattoo especially when you want a unique design. In recent years people have turned towards online design galleries which offer a diverse and large selection in comparison to catalogues found in tattoo parlours. Experienced tattoo artists will have no problem replicating a design they are presented with. A good method is to take time to research Celtic Butterfly Tattoos, to ensure a unique and appropriate design is found.  Suzanne Bryan

Lizard Tattoos - Geckos or Iguanas?

Trendy Lizard Tattoos 2011
Lizard Tattoos are popular tattoo designs both for men and women. They can be inked small and large as well, and in many styles, like realistic, cartoonish, simplistic, tribal and so on. Lizards have been highly popular especially in Hawaiian and Polynesian traditions, and as we know these are cultures that associate deep meaning and symbolism to natural creatures and elements - the lizard is not an exception either.

Trendy Lizard Tattoos 2011
As for lizard tattoos, there are usually two main types that people choose:

Gecko Lizard Tattoos: Geckos can commonly be found in tropical regions of the world. They are completely harmless, and have broad and long bodies. What is special about them is that they can change their natural colors to disguise themselves from predators. They have very good hearing unlike other lizard animals. But what is most important, they look awesome in tattoo form. Some choose a design that covers the full chest or back, or just a small simple design to the legs.
Trendy Lizard Tattoos 2011
Iguana Lizard Tattoos:Iguanas come mainly from South Africa and Central America. They can grow as large as 5 to 7 feet and have impressive defensive mechanisms. They naturally have bright colors, so you should use intense colors to make it look good as a tattoo.
Trendy Lizard Tattoos 2011
There are many associations of lizards amongst people. For Example, Native Americans associate them with dreams, thus lizard tattoo wearers are considered dreamers or individuals who can interpret dreams. As for the Romans, lizards symbolized rebirth and resurrection. Another interpretation of them are divine wisdom and fortune, especially for the Greeks and Egyptians.
Trendy Lizard Tattoos 2011

The popularity of these tattoos is rising nowadays thanks to celebrities also. Let's have a look at stars who have this tattoo:

David Bowie - singer: He has a lizard tattoo on his ankle

Alissa York - author: She inked a gecko lizard on her left arm.

Alex O'Loughlin - actor: You can see a lizard tattoo over the right nipple

Nicholas Cage - actor: He has a special design; a lizard wearing a top hat on his upper back
Trendy Lizard Tattoos 2011
Specifically talking about gecko or iguana tattoos, we can say that they come in bigger and smaller designs, too. The interesting thing is that many women choose a bigger design, say on the sides, and not only small lizards (like the simplistic tribal one). The tattoos look best with bright colors and in a simple way in my opinion. They can be decorated though with flames, flowers, a yin yang symbol, and so on.  Mark Hann

Unique Tattoo Design Ideas

Trendy Unique Tattoo Design 2010/2011
Tribal Tattoos - In tattoo reference, the word Tribal encompasses native styles from prehistoric cultures around the world. Tribal tattoos originated in areas such as Hawaii and Samoa. Tribal tattoos are bold with heavy black lines and shading of geometric shapes.

Someone who specializes in these tattoos says their popularity is somewhat due to the wide resurgence and acceptance of Tribal Tattooing, and the increased availability of images of these tattooed people. These tattoos generally have a particular "meaning", connecting the wearer to a past tribal culture, not just something from a book of pictures. Some of the artists that work with tribal styles are some of the most highly respected artists of today.
Trendy Unique Tattoo Design 2010/2011
Old School Tattoos - Many of these designs have been popular for decades, such as ships, anchors, and panthers. Some other types are generally associated with gangs, ex-cons, or white supremacists. Many of the old school tattoos are associated with the military, like anchors, hula girls, mermaids, and eagles. Some tattoo artists have been experimenting with some of these designs by adding some newer techniques and brighter colors.
Trendy Unique Tattoo Design 2010/2011
Memorial Tattoos - Like the old school tattoos, memorial tattoos have a long history, and are still popular today. Most familiar of these is the heart with the "I love mom". Names and initials are still popular as well. Many people today choose to honor loved ones with a portrait, whether it is a spouse, child, or even their black Labrador retriever. These tattoos can usually be done with a single needle in a very realistic way. Many artists discourage customers from having names of sweethearts tattooed on their bodies for obvious reasons.
Trendy Unique Tattoo Design 2010/2011
Prison Tattoos - Tattooing is generally forbidden in prisons, but is still popular among inmates. They find very creative ways to decorate their fellow inmates. As we know, they did not become inmates because they followed the rules. Inmates make tattoos from guitar strings, pen parts, and other things. Books with designs are not available, so the artists there work freehand. They use their bodies like a canvas. The tattoos in prison generally have symbolic meaning unique to the individual wearer.
Trendy Unique Tattoo Design 2010/2011
Temporary Tattoos - As the name suggests, temporary tattoos can be removed. They are popular with kids and adults that do not necessarily want to be permanently marked. These tattoos are generally created on paper and transferred to the skin by removing the wrapping, and wetting the back with a damp washcloth and pressing firmly. After about 30 seconds, the design is applied; leaving a tattoo that can be removed generally with rubbing alcohol. These tattoos are generally available everywhere from the local quickie mart, to most grocery stores. Children exchange them as gifts, they are used for Halloween, and adults can use them to "try out" having a real tattoo.
Trendy Unique Tattoo Design 2010/2011
If you are planning on a permanent tattoo, just make sure to do your research, and that you trust your artist, and his design before you move forward. Your tattoo will be permanent, and you want to be completely comfortable before you get inked.  Paul L Westcott
